This year, our team once again explored the streets of Venice. We have previously attended the Art Biennial three times. This time, our goal was to experience the 19th “Biennale Architettura 2025,” which runs from May 10th to November 23rd. The event is spread across Giardini, the Arsenale, and various locations throughout Venice, transforming the city into a “living laboratory.” In our field, it is essential to continually nurture our creative spirit and mind, and this event was truly a feast for both.
URBAN EXPLORING
This year’s Biennale is organized around a four-part framework:
Natural Intelligence – Architecture inspired by living biological systems, where plants and ecosystems influence form and function.
Artificial Intelligence – Projects that utilize AI, data science, and robotics for urban planning, adaptive materials, and interactive structures.
Collective Intelligence – Community-driven, participatory, and co-design initiatives that empower inclusive and locally-rooted architectural practices.
Hybrid Intelligence – Investigations at the intersection and combination of natural, artificial, and collective modes, even exploring themes like space architecture. The integrated concept of Intelligens draws from the Latin “gens” (people), highlighting intelligence as collective, inclusive, and diverse.
The Biennale is both ambitious and overwhelming, featuring a blend of robotics, AI, climate activism, material innovations, integrated nature, social design, and sustainability. The 2025 Venice Architecture Biennale combines:
Intelligence as ecology, technology, and community
Circular design practice
The city as a participatory workshop
It is clearly a call to action, showcasing how architecture and design can adapt, collaborate, and respond to global crises with intelligence that is natural, artificial, and collective.
Overall our conclusion is that the ‘Biennale Architettura’ is a ‘must visit’ for everyone that is on ‘the bigger picture’ side of things. So it definitely gets our 12 thumbs up.
