Commissioned by Bureau Spoorbouwmeester, the guide explores how train stations in the Netherlands can evolve beyond transit hubs into vital public spaces, connecting seamlessly with the cities around them.

Designing the blueprint for the development and functioning of Dutch train stations
For the design behind this publication, our role was to translate a rich and complex body of content into a clear, engaging, and accessible format.
‘Het Stationsconcept’; a collaborative vision by ProRail, NS, and Bureau Spoorbouwmeester, outlines the desired design, atmosphere, and user experience of Dutch train stations. This framework guides everything from new construction and renovations to daily operations, all with a focus on traveller comfort, accessibility, and spatial quality.
Our design challenge was to bring this vision to life in a way that is both informative and visually intuitive.
The publication is structured around different domains of the station, each accompanied by clear design guidelines. To make this extensive information more digestible, we developed a layout that balances clarity with visual appeal, combining generous white space, full-page photography, and detailed diagrams.
Custom infographics, axonometric drawings, and schematic illustrations break down complex ideas into usable tools. More than a reference document, the result is a practical and inspiring guide, built to help architects, designers, and planners shape the stations of tomorrow.
